Board of Governors

The ICCW is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation that supplies compassionate service and relief to the poor, the distressed and the underprivileged in the Chicago metropolitan area. Its mission is accomplished primarily through the annual Presentation Ball, the forum at which over 1,000 young ladies have been welcomed by family, friends and the Catholic community into a world of civic responsibility and awareness.

The first Presentation Ball was sponsored by the ICCW on December 29, 1958. Notably, Mrs. Frank J. Lewis served as Honorary Chairman; Mrs. W. Lydon Wild and Mr. Maurice Frank served as Co-Chairmen. The inspiration of Mrs. John Connery, the Presentation Ball received its name from her daughter Nancy to signify the presentation of young ladies to His Eminence, Albert Cardinal Meyer. Tonight we recognize the ICCW’s rich heritage by accentuating the lace hand fan and the Presentation Ball emblem. Both were used at the first Presentation Ball in 1958 and, to some extent, in every Ball thereafter. The 2008 Presentation Ball also highlights the American Beauty Rose, a debutante favorite since the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and the color red. A traditional color of the Christmas season, red is incorporated because it symbolizes respect, generosity, courage and, of course, love -- the focus of Pope Benedict XVI’s first encyclical.
